Excursions
We have put together some of the most beautiful excursions in and around Sankt Johann/Alpendorf. Sankt Johann/Alpendorf lies in the middle of SalzburgerLand, making it the ideal starting point for the prettiest destinations in the area.
Liechtenstein Gorge:
Experience one of the most beautiful, longest and deepest gorges of the Alpine world: Liechtenstein Gorge!
The powerful roar of the waterfall, stones clad in vivid green moss, an atmosphere shrouded in legend, and rays of sunlight creating a rainbow in the mists of water.
This unique natural spectacle is 25 min. by foot from the hotel or 5 min. by car.
Alpendorf Mountain Lifts – Lift Hikes:
The cable car brings you comfortably and quickly from Alpendorf (the valley station is only 50 m from our hotel!) to the Gernkogel, an area of alpine pastures and great hiking paths! It doesn’t matter if you want to undertake just a few steps to the nearest meadow or an extended high altitude hike! In any case, cozy huts along the way invite you to step inside for a rest and typical alpine snacks.
Here, you also have the opportunity to visit "Ghost Mountain". It’s a theme park on the Gernkogel for the entire family. The young kids will find a variety of ghosts, the older kids will find the longest slides and biggest swings, and adults can enjoy a special hiking and nature experience.
Giant Ice Caves – the largest ice caves in the world:
A cave system of over 40 km stretches through the craggy limestone massif of the Tennengebirge and includes an amazing natural phenomenon. In addition, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Salzachtal and Hohenwerfen Castle (ca. 25 km from the hotel).
Hohenwerfen Castle- castle of adventure:
This former fortress of the prince archbishops from the 11th century attracts visitors daily with castle tours, special events, a stylish tavern and a medieval gift shop.
Of particular interest is the historic State Falconer, including bird-of-prey shows. These take place daily at 11:00 and 2:00.
A theme park for the entire family on the Gernkogel (1,767 m above sea level):
In a splendid panoramic location, the young kids will find a variety of ghosts, the older kids will find the longest slides and biggest swings, and adults can enjoy a special hiking and nature experience.
The Ghost Park also offers: well-kept, spooky trails on and around the Gernkogel, panoramic towers, mountain climbing, giant slides, Krampus caves, swings, shooting galleries, water games, mill wheels, waterfalls...
